The Rule:
Rule
15.1
Tinted
and mirrored eye shields are not permitted (only clear).
Players may wear yellow (protection of UV rays) tinted face
shields if they provided a letter from a doctor requesting
and a signed consent form, from the player’s guardian (if
applicable) that they are aware of the dangers with a tinted
face shield when medical support requires to see the
player’s pupils without removing the helmet when diagnosing
head injuries.
From the League (5.17.06):
The League is being very careful this year on the use of visors. Many Dr's notes were coming in and there was no attention paid to the rule. This year we require that the Dr. not suggest but insist that a yellow UV visor is required.
Clear shields must also be prescribed. We cannot worry about the debate on whether a shield is clear or not. If the official feels the shield is tinted in any fashion, they will ask that it be removed.
Please have this form for any player that requires a yellow UV shield. The Dr. must initial that he understands the rule before he prescribes the visor.
This form along with the Doctors note will be faxed back to the OVFL.
All visors require a note. If a player needs to wear a visor to protect his eyes, then he needs a note to use a clear visor.
We are only allowing visors with notes. This will eliminate officials having to deal with issues of whether the visor is tinted or not.
So if the player requires a visor for light sensitivity, then he uses yellow UV.
The note should state that. If the player requires a clear visor , then the note should state that. No other visors will be allowed.
If you had a player wear one last year he has to resubmit this year. No carry over.
To Wear a Visor:
Please download the
form linked to at left and take to your doctor ASAP. Have your
doctor complete the form and attach a note "insisting" that a
visor is required. Return to
Mr. Richardson (Varsity) or Mr. DeGrasse (Junior) who will fax
into the league. The League will distribute a list of
those players allowed visors to officials each week. You cannot
wear a visor without these 2 pieces of documentation.
