Suiting Up

Instructions

  • STEP 1: If wearing an athletic supporter put it on first , and an undershirt . A cup is optional but not encouraged.
  • STEP 2: Slip your hip pads and tailbone pads into your girdle and slip these on over your athletic supporter, if wearing one, or undershorts. If not using a girdle, slip second belt through the slots in the hip and tail pads and wrap around waist so the hip pads line up just above hip bones and tail pad lines up over tail bone. Girdles can be purchased from MTW for $25
  • STEP 3: Slip your knee and thigh pads into the slots in your pants (practice+white or gold, game=navy) and slip these on over your girdle. The top of the pants should sit just below the top edge of the hip pads. The knee pads should have the rounded side down and curved side in. The thigh pads widest edge should be facing towards the outer side of the body and curved side in. Tighten belt.
  • STEP 4: Put on athletic socks and cleats.
  • STEP 5: Put on rib pads and then shock pads, if you have these items.
  • STEP 6: Put your shoulder pads on over your undershirt. Tie or otherwise secure them tightly across your chest. If you have a belt system, you may need help from a teammate to secure the belt.
  • STEP 7: Attach your neck roll if you have one.
  • STEP 8: Pull your (practice or game) jersey on over your shoulder pads.
  • STEP 9: Put on any protective arm gear you may have.
  • STEP 10: Affix your chin strap, mouth protector and jaw pads to your helmet. Put these on. Ensure that the chin cup is centered on the chin and there is no slack in chin straps.

Tips & Warnings

  • You cannot wear game pants during practice!
  • You must wear your MTW practice jersey at all practices
  • You must wear white Nike game socks for all games
  • Your undershirt must be tucked in to your pants for all games.
  • Any head coverings including skull caps and bandanas are prohibited in the OVFL. They can effect the proper fit of the helmet.
  • In the OVFL, visors are only permitted if clear or yellow tint and only if accompanied with a doctors note specifically stating you need to wear the visor for medical reasons. This must be provided to a team official.
  • To mold a rubber mouth protector to your mouth, begin by boiling it and running it under cool tap water. Place it into your mouth and suck the air out of it. It will form to the shape of your teeth as it hardens.
  • Check connection points on helmets, chin strap contacts and face mask contacts to make sure they are tight and secure. Check decals on helmets to make sure there are no air bubbles or dirt under the edges.
  • Any rips or tears in practice & game pants or game jerseys should be reported to team officials immediately
